Seasoned food marketing professional joins Omega-3 algae oil specialist Veramaris to further accelerate impact in aquaculture and pet food markets
Veramaris has landed food marketing specialist Anthony Lin, whose big brand heritage includes Mars, Unilever and Upfield, to drive significant growth for the company in its key channels of aquaculture and pet food.
Lin will take the role of Global Marketing and Communications Director from 1st September 2021 and will lead the development and execution of the Veramaris marketing strategy to further strengthen the brand and product propositions and bring to life the compelling story behind Veramaris’ innovative EPA & DHA Omega-3 algae oil. Lin joins Veramaris from Upfield Professional where he was Global Category Lead for the Cream & Cheese categories.
Commenting on his new role, Lin said: “I am genuinely excited to be joining Veramaris and being part of this passionate, insurgent team.
“There’s no question that consumers are searching the shelves for more sustainable and nutritious options. With Veramaris’ unique Omega-3 algae oil, we have an amazing opportunity to help the aquaculture industry, retailers, hospitality and pet food manufacturers deliver the products people are asking for whilst reducing their impact on the planet.”
Karim Kurmaly, CEO of Veramaris, said: “Bringing on Anthony is a huge coup for Veramaris. His considerable experience in the global food marketing industry will be immensely valuable to us as we continue to deepen our collaboration with partners across our value chain.
“He has a proven track record in growing food categories, partnering with global retail and foodservice brands, as well as skills in digital marketing and innovation.
“I’ve no doubt that Anthony will be a huge asset to Veramaris and I am looking forward to working with him as we continue to support the continued sustainable growth of aquaculture.”
Lin is the third hire for Veramaris this year, preceded by Victoria Parr in March and Johan Brouwer in July, who joined the company as Global Business Development Directors.
Veramaris was founded in 2018 as a joint venture between science and chemicals giants DSM and Evonik and is leading the ongoing revolution in new, sustainable feed and food ingredients.
The company’s certification earlier this year by ASC and MSC is expanding the world’s access to certified EPA & DHA Omega-3 by 45%.
Veramaris represents the sustainable choice for Omega-3 nutrition in both the aquaculture and pet food industries. Salmon, shrimp and other species as well as cats and dogs can now grow up on EPA & DHA Omega-3 from natural marine algae, which reduces reliance on wild-caught fish for feed.
In fact, Veramaris’ EPA & DHA Omega-3 is now more potent than ever before, with a potency level greater than 60% compared to the previous 50%, thanks to ongoing improvements by the company’s international R&D team. Veramaris’ algae pioneers have a reputation today which is unmatched.

Veramaris, headquartered in Delft, The Netherlands, is a joint venture between DSM and Evonik, both world leaders in science and specialty chemicals. Established in 2018, Veramaris was formed to help realise a vision to conserve natural marine life by using the ocean's own resource, natural marine algae, to sustainably expand the world's access to Omega-3.
Veramaris extracts oil from natural marine algae, rich in both the essential Omega-3 fatty acids EPA & DHA, and also ARA, a long chain Omega-6, vital nutrients for improved brain, heart and eye health in both animals and humans.
The zero-waste industrial scale production process runs at a state-of-the-art site in Blair, Nebraska, USA.
Veramaris enables key stakeholders in aquaculture and pet nutrition to become independent of wild-caught fish and meet the growing demand for sustainable seafood and animal protein.
